Dr. Evelyne Vinet


Dr. Evelyne Vinet, MD, PhD is a rheumatologist and an assistant professor at the Rheumatology Division of the McGill University Health Centre. She works at the Lupus and Vasculitis Clinic and at the Reproduction and Rheumatology Clinic of the Montreal General Hospital. Dr. Vinet also devotes a large portion of her time to research focusing on reproductive issues in women living with rheumatic diseases.

Managing pregnancy with arthritis

Inflammatory arthritis (IA) predominantly affects women. It is important for women living with IA to discuss with their doctor if they are wishing to become pregnant. Pregnancies should be planned to minimize potential issues and ensure the medication prescribed to manage the disease is safe for the baby during. . In cases where the pregnancy is planned, most women living with inflammatory arthritis don’t experience complications and many can even breastfeed.

Vivre une grossesse avec l’arthrite

L’arthrite inflammatoire touche majoritairement les femmes. Il est donc important de discuter de maternité avec son médecin. La grossesse doit être planifiée pour réduire au minimum les problèmes possibles et s’assurer que la médication utilisée pour contrôler l’arthrite est sécuritaire pour le bébé pendant la gestation et l’allaitement. Lorsque la grossesse est bien planifiée, la grande majorité des femmes atteintes d’arthrite inflammatoire vivront cette période déterminante sans complication, et beaucoup pourront allaiter.
